Learn about cellulite treatments

There are a plethora of cellulite treatments on the market today and with the variety of ingredients they contain, how do you know which type will work? All manufacturers promise a miracle in the battle against cellulite, but what will actually do the best job of eliminating this embarrassing sight?

Cellulite treatment…

Exercise is a first thought to defend yourself. It can increase firmness and tone muscles, which are positive benefits in addition to maintaining a healthy heart, but unfortunately not enough to have a miraculous effect on the visible appearance of cellulite. Its main causes have been found to be more a product of genetics and aging rather than the amount of exercise you do or don’t do.

The most current solutions so far have been nothing more than topical treatments. Most remedies, mainly in cream form, contain vitamins, herbs, minerals, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatories that can help promote blood flow to affected areas. These creams generally allow the skin to appear softer and smoother, with an overall healthy and dehydrated appearance; however, they are not very effective in eliminating the cellulite problem and are merely temporary. Damaged fat and contained cells within the skin are only partially treated. To successfully complete the treatment of cellulite, experts say that it is necessary to take care of the problem both internally and externally.

Topical treatments are also unable to penetrate the dermis where much of the cellulite is located. Creams and lotions generally reach only the epidermis, or top layer of skin. Many cellulite treatments are unsuccessful mainly because they only focus on the outward appearance of cellulite. They are unable to fully combat damage where it thrives. Dimpling on the surface of the skin is simply evidence of the underlying cause. Basically, a deeper remedy is needed to complement the topical solutions. The fact is that you must reach within yourself to remove the damage caused by genetics and aging.

As the skin care experts at Murad state, “There are nine different pathways by which cellulite and stretch marks can be effectively repaired.” “The more you use, the more successful you will be at reducing, preventing and even eliminating cellulite.”

Nine ways to treat cellulite

1. Strengthen blood vessels/increase blood flow

2. Encourages the production of connective tissue

3. Stimulate the production of collagen and elastin

4. Draw water into cells

5.Repair cell membranes

6. Reduce water waste

7. Prevent Free Radical Damage

8. Reduce inflammation

9. Promote exfoliation

A manufacturer of an anti-cellulite product called Thermoderm(TM) lists some ingredients stating: “After extensive research and testing… found that the ideal formulation required to eliminate cellulite consisted of these natural herbs:

  • Horse Chestnut – helps circulation
  • Dandelion Root: Helps the liver process and eliminate toxins.
  • Parsley – a diuretic that will help remove excess fluid from the tissues
  • Gingko Biloba: regulates the tone and elasticity of blood vessels, making circulation more efficient.

There are also secondary cellulite treatments used to reduce dimpling; however, it is important to remember that these alone will do little to reduce the overall appearance of the cottage cheese. They include:

Body Spa Treatments, Body Wraps, Deep Tissue Massage, Do-It-Yourself Massage, Dermal Fillers, Electronic Anti-Cellulite Devices, Iontophoresis, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Mesotherapy, Microdermabrasion, Non-Ablative Lasers, Peeling, Skin Brushing and Thalassotherapy.

Again, the important thing to remember in treating cellulite is to incorporate factors that help eliminate cellulite from the inside out, not just smooth the appearance of the skin’s surface.
