Skimboarding hot spots in Florida

1. Siesta Key – Saratosa Florida: This place is best for skimboarding during the cooler seasons. If you are looking to catch big waves, the best time to hit this spot is when a storm is coming from shore. Certain parts of this area can be crowded depending on where you decide to go.

2. North Fort Lauderdale: the commercial “anglans” pier has a nice flat beach and is easy to get to the water (even for beginners). The surf at this beach can reach 3 feet and other skimboarders have made a break here, so at low tide it rises to about 6 feet. This beach tends to get crowded, so keep that in mind when looking for a spot.

3. St Augustine, Vilano Beach – This trendy skimboarding spot is just minutes from the oldest known city in America, this spot is famous among Florida skimboarders. This beach has the typical Florida break combined with a very generous slope. The waves at this beach break right on the shore and are a decent size for most of the year. The biggest waves tend to be in the 4 foot range. There is a jetty at the southern end of the beach near the Vilano inlet and the waves beat better in this area. Try to stay away from fishermen in this area. The best time to skimboard on this beach is undoubtedly high tide.
