2010 Acura ALMS shows off its new racing engine

The new 2010 Acura Alms (American Le Mans) will showcase its latest racing engine this season, which is entirely designed and produced by the California-based HPD (Honda Performance Development) team.

The Acura will enter the ALMS series, while the Honda is expected to enter the Indy racing league, powered by a new V-8 engine. As Acura returns to the American Le Mans series, there is more hope and expectation in the new Acura models and it may lead to a world-class performance company.

HPD, where Acura engines are built, was established in 1993 as a subsidiary of Honda Motor Co. The company served as the technical operations center for the IndyCar engine program.

Previously, Acura had participated in the Motor Sports Association during the 1990s, providing additional support and sponsorship for the Comptech racing team. Although there was not a full effort on the part of the company, the main pilot, Parker, Johnstone, won three titles during 1991-1993. Aside from this, Acura had also supported Peter Cunningham and real-time racing in the SCCA World Challenge competition. Technical and other details about the new model are not yet known.

According to Acura sources, the 2010 Acura ALMS is expected to drop out of American Le Mans racing this year. Acura entered the 2007 American Le Mans competition, competing in the LMP2 class. This was the first motorsports program in the history of Acura in its 20-year career. It also competed with major companies like Mazda, Porsche and Audi.
