26 Lanzarote Attractions – Guinate Tropical Park

The Tropical Park is open every day of the year including holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The entrance costs 14 euros per adult and 5 euros per child and I recommend leaving half a day to tour the park, although some visitors have found out that they spend the whole day there.

Parque Tropical is located in the north of the island at the foot of Mount Corona, an extinct volcano that is the highest point on the island, near the Cliffs of Famara and 400 meters above sea level, with spectacular views of the islands. from La Graciosa. , Alegranza and Montaña Clara.

We arrived by the most picturesque route that took us through Teguise, the ancient capital of Lanzarote, passing through Los Valles to stunning views of the island and towards the beautiful province of Haría (the valley of a thousand palm trees). From Haría we take the road that passes through the Mirador del Río (Article 22 of mine covers a separate day trip). You will see the signs for Guinate and the park from this point on your trip.

The park covers 11 acres of land (45,000 square feet) and includes gardens, waterfalls, and lakes. The park has many species of birds (around 300 species in total), including ostriches, flamingos, cranes, hornbills, toucans, cockatoos, macaws, pheasants, ibis, ducks, pigeons, and pigeons. There are also many smaller bird species such as finches, cardinals, and lovebirds. There is also a large walk-through aviary, about 3/4 of an acre (roughly 3,200 square meters) with six species of weaver birds that breed naturally in the area. It is quite fascinating to watch them build their hanging nests inside the aviary.

In the same area you will find parrots and many other small birds that fly free in this almost natural habitat. Inside this aviary is a 70 meter by 7 meter lake filled with Koi carp, some of which are almost a meter long. You will also see Mandarin and Carolina ducks swimming among the fountains. A fascinating area of the park that should not be missed.

The Park is known to have a successful breeding program for macaws, cockatoos, African grays, and other species of parrots. Also with various pigeons, finches, pheasants, ornamental ducks, ostriches, rheas, hornbills and many other small birds.

In the gardens you will find many different varieties of plants, shrubs and trees from the park, many of which have been tagged with interesting information about their particular uses and countries of origin. There is a cactus walk on the hillside with a great variety of cacti and where a waterfall falls into the flamingo, duck and swans pond below.

Every day, there are six birds, at no additional charge. These take place at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm and 4.30pm where you can see macaws and cockatoos tightrope riding their bikes, driving cars and scooters, adding and subtracting numbers and many other tricks. The theater where the show takes place has a capacity of 200 people and hot and cold snacks can be served while watching the show or you can relax on the terrace of the bar overlooking a large area of the park. There is a children’s play area here where children can let off steam while parents enjoy a quiet drink.

There is a well-stocked store in the Park, many of which are unique to the Park and will not be found in any other store on the island. There are two restroom areas in the park. The first is located near the entrance and exit and has baby changing facilities in the ladies. The other is near the bar and the theater. There are ramps for wheelchairs, around the park and into the theater. Dogs are not allowed in the park.
