5 Basic Logo Design Tips Every Entrepreneur Should Know

Whether you are starting a new business or already have one, your logo is truly the iconic agent that represents the attributes of your business. Through the use of shapes, fonts, colors and/or images, your logo should inspire trust and recognition for your business or product.

1-Your logo must be describable and memorable. Having a well-designed logo that represents your business not only gives you recognition but also provides a powerful and instant image of who you are to the outside world. Having a remarkable logo also reflects the professionalism and trustworthiness of your business, providing a strong foundation for your brand and a huge advantage over your competition.

2- Use an appropriate typography. There are millions of fonts available that you can use, so don’t make the mistake of using basic stock fonts like Times, Arial, or Helvetica like most startups do. On the other hand, don’t overdo it with crazy unrelated fonts or script fonts that you can’t read. Make sure the font you choose is legible. It is also important that each letter is well balanced with the others because sometimes some letters do not go well together. You can download fonts for free by searching for “Free Fonts” on Google. There are many websites where you can test fonts by entering your company name to see how it looks. Also, make sure the font is legible when it’s very small because sometimes you’ll need your logo to be only one inch.

3- Integrate a catchy tagline with your logo. Although not required, using a catchy tagline or tagline with your logo adds additional information that defines who you are. It also helps make your business memorable, which can make it stand out from your competitors. Although a tagline evolves over time, it should reveal your company’s best attributes. Example: Nike uses “Just do it!” McDonald’s uses “I love it”

4- Be smart with your choice of colors. Using the right color combination for your logo is an important part of your branding process. Choose no more than two or three colors that are suitable for your industry. Example: if you are opening a SPA, do not use dark or red colors, use relaxing light colors that represent cleanliness and serenity. Don’t underestimate the power of color. Your color selection and the way you use it can totally “make” or “break” your overall branding strategy. And it can make your logo look cheap. Also, your logo needs to be effective with and without color. You should test to see how it looks in grayscale and black and white. Sometimes you will need to provide the grayscale version for black and white printing.

5- Your Logo must be scalable. It is important that your logo is as small as an inch as it is large because you will be using it for different purposes. When starting a new business, you have to be ahead of your competition, you have to be better, smarter and more effective. in attracting your market. It should look like you’ve been in business for years and your image should be impeccable.

To design an effective logo that represents a company well, skill and knowledge are required. Our job as designers is to create an identity that does its job. Unfortunately, many new business owners take it upon themselves to design their own logo, thinking it will save them money, but in the end they fail miserably due to the poor image they created for their business.
