An introduction to scrapbooking

Scrapbooking is gaining popularity around the world as kids and parents get together to put their memories not just on paper, but on all sorts of colorful cardboard with special scrapbooking supplies carefully laid out. How do you think you would go to scrapbooking?

Scrapbooking is the art of creating and storing treasured memories neatly within a book; there is never a right or wrong way to do it. Your book is your book, it can be as complex or simple as you choose it to be.

Thomas Jefferson was a scrapbook. He was one of those who kept newspaper articles from his two terms as president. Every Sunday, Mark Twain made time to fill his scrapbooks with the treasures he found on his many adventures, photos, and items he wanted to keep for recollection and reflection.

When starting out, some basic materials should include your book, binder, or album; some photos and some adhesive. At this point you can add decals, stamps, sketches and other moments in the design that you want.

Scrapbooking usually has some form of photography or hand-drawn drawings. However, with the technology available to us today, you can now take a video and then extract still images from the video and print them for your scrapbook. In essence, capturing your “ballerina” in full swing; or the look of concentration on the kicker’s face as he attempts to make the game-winning field goal; Or you won’t want to miss the look on your minor leaguer’s face when he hits his first home run or makes that big catch!

It is common for children to be on some kind of sports team, in a school club, or as part of a neighborhood program, which requires them to be a “team player.” These are fond memories (and life lessons) that you’ll always want to be able to capture and freeze to show off to the future generation or perhaps family members who missed out on the special moments.

Remember to include names, dates, places and a comment for two; for the viewer to understand the whole picture, there is no guessing who, what, where and when. So anyone can pick up your scrapbook and almost be transported back to that special time or event that meant so much to you!

There are special themed scrapbooking stickers available online and plenty of scrapbook layout ideas to peruse. Not to mention special scrapbooking pens that are permanent and won’t smudge or fade over time. This is known as “journaling” in the scrapbooking world and is one of the most important parts of the scrapbooking process.
