A convertible car is also called a convertible in Great Britain. This is actually a car that has a retractable roof that can allow you to have direct contact with the wind while driving. The car roof is usually made of lightweight materials such as vinyl, canvas, aluminum, or even plastic. If the roof of the convertible car is made of a rigid material, the car is called a cabriolet coupe or a convertible coupe.

The history of the convertible car begins with the very beginning of the history of automobiles. However, until 1910, a roof was not mandatory because the engine was weak and the speed of the car was not threatening. During the 1950s and 1960s, convertibles were back in fashion and many models were available, made by different American manufacturers. Some of these convertible cars include the Packard Caribbean, the Oldsmobile 98, or the Imperial by Chrysler.

There were also some profitable editions like the Rambler American and the Studebaker Lark. All these convertible car models were very popular and you had to have one to be in style. Several of these models appeared in the movies, endorsing the style and further popularizing these convertibles.
