How to Properly Start a Fire in a Fire Pit

Planning a party? An outdoor fire pit may be just what you need. There are many ways to start a fire in a fire pit. This article will show you how to properly start a fire in a fire pit.

There are also warnings that accompany some of these. One of the easiest ways to get it to work is to get an electric lighter, it’s a ring that gets hot when you plug it in, that way there’s nothing scorched (especially hair). Charcoal is another good and easy way to start a fire. Simply light the charcoal and after the coals reach the correct stage, place your kindling on there. PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY KIND OF ACCELERATOR!!

If you’re more of the no-shortcut type, then you might like this one a bit better. First take about 3 pieces of newspaper and twist them tightly. That’s as far as some people will go, I’ve found if you go a step further and tie them in knots they work better and give the newer wood time to catch. To make your woodpile (and keep it safe). You’ll put the twisted paper on the bottom, then put in a small pile of chips (small dry twigs work great, as do dry leaves). Third, the largest pieces of wood. You’ll want to build a small teepee out of all of this, about 12 inches tall. This keeps the heat in the middle. Helps the fire and keeps it centered in the pit.

Now let’s move on to some tips on how to keep the fire going. You don’t want to put too much fire in the hole or the flames will get too high, also don’t want to use pressure treated wood as it gives off dangerous chemicals.

Do not cook food over a log fire as it releases chemicals. If you want to cook over your pit, it’s wise to use real wood (preferably from a tree) or, of course, charcoal. Charcoal does not give off a big flame.

You can put sand in the bottom of the fire to prevent it from burning, just remember to throw it away after each burn. If you don’t, the sand will get wet and rust the bottom of the hole.

Knowing how to start a fire in a fire pit correctly is the most important thing you can learn and do. Please, when starting ANY type of burn, whether it is a manufactured fire pit or a hole in the ground, use common sense or someone may get hurt.
