McAfee SiteAdvisor™ is a site alert tool that proactively informs you whether or not a particular website is safe to browse. It does this by adding colored ratings against each website in the search results. Despite being a good tool, you may want to uninstall McAfee SiteAdvisor™ from your computer for various reasons.

Instructions:

Close any programs that are currently running on your computer. If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, click the Begin menu and navigate to control Panel. Click on the Uninstall a program link below Programs. If you don’t see this option and instead see a set of programs, you might be in the classic view low control Panel Home (see on the left side panel). Look for Programs and characteristics and double click on its icon. When the window opens, you will see all the programs listed there. Look for McAfee Site Advisor of the programs listed, select it and press the button uninstall button. you might see Uninstall/Remove button, click it to continue.

If you are prompted for confirmation, click Yeah gold keep going (whatever option you see there) to continue. If you are using Windows XP, click the Begin and navigate to control Panel> Add or remove programs. Wait for the window to fill with programs. When finished, locate McAfee SiteAdvisor, select it, and press the Eliminate button. Instead you can see change and delete button, press it. When prompted, confirm the deletion. Let the wizard complete the removal of McAfee SiteAdvisor. When prompted, restart your computer.

This method will work only when McAfee SiteAdvisor was installed as a standalone program. If it’s installed as a built-in component of your McAfee antivirus program, you won’t find it as a separate program under Add or Remove Programs in Windows XP and Programs (or Programs and Features) in Windows 7/Vista. Instead, you will find McAfee Antivirus or Security Suite in the programs. Click on it and press the button uninstall button in Windows 7/Vista or Eliminate button in Windows XP. This will open the McAfee security suite, check the box next to advisory site and hit the uninstall gold Eliminate button. Confirm the deletion and let the wizard handle the rest of the procedure. Restart your PC when prompted. If you want, you can also select and remove other components such as McAfee virusscan.

Although the program was removed, its registry entries still exist in Registry Editor. You must find and remove them to completely remove McAfee SiteAdvisor. You can do it manually or with a registry cleaning tool. Remember, manual modification requires a thorough understanding of Registry Editor. In the absence of which, it can cause your system to crash or other critical issues. Therefore, we do not recommend that you try the manual method. Instead, go online and download a free registry cleaner tool from a reputable website. When prompted, save the file.

Go to the downloads folder, locate the file and open it to run the setup wizard. Follow the instructions on the screen and complete the installation of the registry cleaner. If prompted, restart your PC. When done, open the tool and run a scan for empty or corrupted registry keys of uninstalled programs. When it is done, ask it to clean selected or all registry keys. You can ask the tool to create a restore point before performing the cleanup. When you’re done, exit all windows.

Additional tips:

You can also simply disable McAfee SiteAdvisor instead of removing it. Apart from this, you can install or remove other McAfee-supported tools using the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool (MCPR.exe).
