In Tennessee, travel to a national park that’s so big it’s in two time zones

On the border that Tennessee shares with the state of Kentucky, there is a remarkable area of wilderness that people interested in traveling to Tennessee often tend to miss. It is the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. One of the most striking places to visit here is the natural wonder of the Twin Arches, two extraordinarily large natural arches or bridges, worn by the effects of time and the elements of the rocks in the area. These arches are a couple of the largest natural formations you have seen anywhere in the world.

Having one of those arches in one place would be a wonderful fact in itself. The amazing thing about the Big South Fork is the way nature here has shaped two in the same place. The Twin Arches are not that close to each other, even if they are both in the same place. The North Arch, you’ll find it near where the trail to Charit Creek Lodge and the trail to Slave Falls meet. You get here first and then head to the South Arch some distance away. The South Arch can be a bit tricky to find. Once you are in North Arch you just need to find the signs that take you to Charit Creek Lodge to get to South Arch.

The wonderful thing about visiting the Arco Sur is that tourists often leave this place alone, concentrating on the Arco Norte, which is easier to find. The Arch is shaped in such a way that you can go through the column on the left. The weather has eroded a tunnel right through the massive arch pillar, and if you’re skinny and fit, you can probably get through it and out the other end. If you’re coming to Tennessee, traveling to Twin Arches should give you some great time alone with nature. There are also great picnic spots next to the Arches. With huge rocks scattered around giving you some shade,
having a picnic here can be a real pleasure.

If you want to experience the beauty of Tennessee, travel to the Big South Fork. It is close to the cities of Oneida and Jamestown, and traveling here is not a problem. Is it worth visiting this National Park? For starters, it’s so big that it’s in two time zones: the Central Time Zone and the Eastern Time Zone. In short, it should be worth your time. And then, the entrance is free. The beauty that is witnessed here is impressive. And for anyone who lives near Tennessee, traveling to the Big South Fork is an absolute must.
