Is a Chinese Dwarf Hamster a Good Pet?

If you’re wondering if a Chinese dwarf hamster makes a good pet, consider the pros and cons of keeping one before making a decision. This little hamster is more of an ideal pet for children over 12 years of age and adults who prefer and enjoy watching their pets, rather than cuddling and hugging them.

Some of the advantages of the property:

* Since they are small in size, your home space does not have to take up much space. A ten gallon aquarium, with a breathable lid, may be a suitable space for one.
* They are fairly low maintenance for cleaning and caring for your home.
* They rarely bite, but tend to pee on you if they get scared!
* They are fun to watch and watch their antics.
*Having one is ideal as it is more of a solitary dwarf hamster.
* Fairly inexpensive to keep, compared to a larger animal like a dog.

Some of the disadvantages of the property:

* The female is the most dominant, she could attack and injure or kill a male cagemate
* They can be difficult to handle as they are extremely fast and could take a fall. They are often not recommended for beginning or inexperienced dwarf hamster owners.
* They are very agile, they can easily escape, especially from a barred cage.
*In some states, a Chinese dwarf hamster’s debt is unlawful, so check your zoning statutes beforehand.

The Chinese hamster is more mouse-like than the other hamsters and that is because they are not actually dwarfs but part of the rat-like family of hamsters. They usually often have a longer mouse-shaped body with a long tail and are about 10-12 cm in size. Their fur colors are grayish brown with a black stripe running down their spine and they have a white underside.
