I recently wrote an article about JK Rowling, and a friend of mine pointed out some similarities between her horoscope and Madonna’s.
It is certainly true that both women are Leos who have become fantastically successful. And its success has not been a temporary problem. It has persisted for years and years, and in the process they have made a lot of money and helped define our culture.
On the most basic level, Madonna and JK Rowling remind us that Leo is the best zodiac sign to have, all things being equal.
That may seem like a huge generalization, but the Sun is the ruler of Leo and therefore Leo is the sign in which it works best.
Leo is also a sign that is connected to creativity, the kind of creativity that focuses on oneself and not on teamwork. So it’s no surprise that Madonna and JK Rowling have been successful as individuals, doing something very particular.
Of course, there is a big difference between the approach of the two women. Madonna is a larger-than-life singer who has garnered controversy throughout her career, while JK Rowling comes across as more reserved, as one would probably expect of a writer.
However, there is another astrological similarity. They both have the Moon in Virgo. I think this is very important, because it tells us what stardom is all about.
In a female horoscope, the Moon sign is often more descriptive than the Sun sign. This makes sense, because the Moon is a feminine energy, while the Sun is masculine.
The Virgo sign, when in its best shape, is a worker, and it is also a perfectionist. He wants to do things right, and he’s not happy with second best. Also, the ruler of Virgo is Mercury, the planet of communication. So the Moon in Virgo will put a lot of effort into communicating its message.
However, Virgo by itself is a sign that is not related to stardom. He is often modest and self-deprecating, and tends to keep his ambitions in check.
Therefore, we have to see the Sun in Leo and the Moon in Virgo as two complementary energies. Leo only has a high opinion of himself and might believe that he deserves stardom, not being ready to work.
The Moon in Virgo provides the crucial balance. You appreciate that without effort not much is likely to happen, and you instinctively understand what must be done to be successful.
Madonna had to keep pushing to make sure she was noticed. JK Rowling had to keep writing, regardless of external distractions from her.
I should also say that both Madonna and JK Rowling were born a couple of days after the New Moon. There was a New Moon in Leo just before their respective births, and they weren’t born until the Moon changed signs from Leo to Virgo.
In astrology, the Moon is weakened by being in the same sign as the Sun, so it was crucial that this sign change had occurred. And because both Madonna and JK Rowling were born at the beginning of a lunar cycle, they were able to bring something new into the world, which found great favor in popular culture.
