Mirror’s Edge – PlayStation 3 Demo Review

First I got the news from EBGames that the Mirror’s Edge demo will be available on November 6th, I guess it was moved up 1 week and released today. It’s always a good thing! Unlike Little Big Planet, I’m still waiting for it to be sent from Futureshop, it said “Sent”, but I haven’t seen it in my mailbox yet.

Anyway in the demo.

OMG, that was literally what I told myself when I was playing this game, I have never had such excitement in a long time! The demo was 20-25 minutes max though (unless you keep dying). The game is similar to The Bourne Conspiracy where you have to act quickly otherwise you will be captured/killed. Compared to Bourne, I think Mirror’s Edge is better.

Faith, your character tells you the story in comic style during loading, which is more, it’s always better to look at something that moves instead of the old boring “loading” text. The first part of the demo starts with some tutorials on how to move, jump, slide under objects, and climb. Apart from the basics, you will learn to disarm from behind or in front, shoot or throw the weapon. Thats not all! You’ll also learn how to do crazy stunts like running horizontally on a wall, then turning and jumping to the opposite side (sorry I did my best to describe it). It’s basically pressing 3 buttons, but you really need to time your presses. So you can chain your movements and do something crazy. One thing I love about the controls is that most of the actions are done using just L1.

The second part is real where you have to jump, move or climb to deliver a package to the other runner Celeste. In between, you have to run from hostiles and/or fight your way through. Let me tell you, playing the second part was EXCITING!

The graphics are AMAZING and can run in Full HD 1080p. I particularly like the way the lighting is done. The whole city looks very realistic. I couldn’t stop taking photos while playing the game and the graphics are very good. Definitely a treat for the eyes.

I can’t really comment much on the music, there’s only one track and a good one of course. It feels like the opening music of Metal Gear Solid.

If you haven’t downloaded the demo, do it! You do not know what you’re missing!

I really appreciate game companies putting out game demos because they allow us gamers to try games before we buy them, instead of making all the assumptions and then risking buying something we don’t like to play. Reading reviews and watching trailers from Gamespot and Gametrailers helps a bit, but you can never be sure until you’ve played the games YOURSELF.
