Anneli Rufus has written a very interesting book on Party of One: The Loners Manifesto. The book describes many of the superhumans of our past, who were loners and made a huge dent in the progression of the human species. Too often, society seems to misjudge its loners. Loners are often seen as misfits in society or perhaps even possess criminal elements. But why is this?
It seems that the misconception of what a loner is occurs because society and a human being is a social creature and the winning society cannot place an individual in a frame of reference; that is, a particular individual who is not like them is when the labeling begins. The reason loners are often stereotyped as possessing criminal items is because loners are the hardest types of criminals to catch, and of course those are the ones we remember.
In fact, this book points out that many of the loners contribute more to society and civilization than any other group of people. They create the best art, writing, theories, discoveries, and generally exceed scale. It is the individual who moves societies and civilization and it is the masses who follow them.
Personally, having the ability to work as a solo or in a group, I find myself straddling the two worlds. Most people don’t like loners because they don’t think like them and they don’t usually want to socialize and chat about the weather. Sometimes they can do this, but they don’t like it. Therefore, society generally excludes these individuals, but at the same time honors their work and their minds.
For example, take the Rocky story, we all loved the story, but if we knew that individual personally, we probably wouldn’t like that person. This is because they are still committed to whatever they are doing and love their work so much that they tend not to socialize as much and this annoys us. In fact, in the book they point out that as our society turns more toward socialism and away from the individual, we honor the group rather than the individual.
However, this is only in recent times, as in past periods we have always been intrigued by the super status of the individual. In fact, those who are more liberally inclined tend to hate loners, but at the same time they tell us that everyone in society should accept people for who they are and for who they are. However, this dichotomy poses a problem when it comes to loners for the liberal mind, which is more oriented towards socialism.
Of course, it has been said that socialism pushes the individual down and capitalism pushes the individual up. Lonely people tend to have very high self-esteem and do not need any group, organized religion, or even a society or government. You could say that they are masters of their own minds. Most of the loners in our society are in fact very strong intellectually and do not necessarily lack socialization or the ability to socialize, rather they tend not to engage in such activities because they simply do not like it and because it takes away from them. of what they really want to do. Loners are generally focused, intelligent, and live without limits.
And a further thought after reading the book is that maybe we as a society shouldn’t choose him as loners as he has given more to humanity than any other personality type. Rather, we should look to these people for their expertise in their chosen field of study to help guide us. For the most part, although society does not like loners, they can collect all your information. It is interesting that as a society we condemn these loners that we so need. It was an interesting book. So consider this in 2006.
