Plastic skateboards are made from several different types of plastic and are relatively easy to make in large quantities using injection molding manufacturing processes. Most of the plastic skateboards are considered cheap compared to wooden skateboards.

Still not all plastic skateboards are flimsy or should be considered minor. It really depends on the type of plastic used. Most riders like a fairly firm board for tricks with just a little slack in the center for hard landings and spring action. All carbon boards and composite construction boards can stand up to comparison scrutiny and are preferred by some riders.

Skateboard trucks that hold the wheels are one of the most important components of modern skateboards. They usually consist of an axle, a triangular-shaped hanger, and a kingpin bolt. The trucks are bolted to the faceplate, which is bolted to the skateboard.

The kingpin can be loosened slightly to allow for more or less stiffness, making the skateboard easier to turn or ride stiffer for steering. The rubber grommet helps take up space when choosing a losing setup. Trucks on wood and plastic planks use the same basic principles and strategies, however, generally speaking, the best trucks are attached to the highest quality wood planks.

In the future, skateboards will be made from carbon nanotubes and will most likely fly; Hoverboards. In fact, a hoverboard will not need wheels or trucks and this will save weight and make them much more streamlined for flight. Today hoverboards are big and cumbersome, but that too is changing and many radical new designs are in the works.
