The choleric business partner

The choleric personality type is very “driven” and “dominant.” You will know that you are in the presence of this type of person, by the fact that you will almost feel “commanded” to perform some type of action around him. They are very prone to delegating duties they don’t want to be bothered with, and will stay “on” their employees and associates until they are satisfied with their progress.

The choler has a compulsive need for change and tends to want to “fix” anyone or anything that doesn’t meet their approval or doesn’t seem “right” to them. They are very resolute and even turn off their emotions when asked to act rationally during a crisis.

This type of person is the top “cookie” in business. They love opposition and, as annoying as they can be in their statements, they tend to be “right” almost every time. They achieve their goals, they show confidence, they are determined to achieve them and they are very difficult to discourage. Where Sanguines are “born salespeople”, these people are “born leaders”.

By definition, these people are known to be quite picky and “set in their ways”. They can be seen in roles such as CEO, president, guru, leader and “boss” of the planet. Extremely “confident” of themselves, they generally prefer their own thoughts, ideas, and opinions over those of almost anyone else, which can lead a listener to feel “spoken of” or “belittled” by them.

When talking to prospects, a choleric uses the “racy” mode most of the time…telling these “sales victims” that they MUST check out this new product or business, or they’ll be sorry they didn’t. They will go into the information about the compensation plan and tell their prospect that they can make “millions” and be their own boss, be in control, manage other people…all the “promises of power” this temperamental person will use . Rarely will you find this type of business leader who takes “no” for an answer from someone.

Keirsey and even Myer-Briggs refer to a choleric as a rationalist who constantly wants to be seen as competent and even resourceful. Chols can often get very angry if others don’t do what they want.

My suggestion is that if you have an angry person on your team, listen carefully to what they say, let them run their own business as much as possible, but don’t put other people who aren’t angry with them, unless those associates have a mixture. both choleric and other strong, positive traits that will keep their self-esteem intact and allow them to stand their ground with the energetic businessman or choleric woman.

To give a better example of this personality type, some familiar people who are strong in this trait are: Jim Jones, Bill Gates, Alfred Hitchcock, Betty Davis, and Barbara Walters.
