Waterproof Digital Cameras and Cases – Digital Underwater Photography

Underwater photography has become very popular in the last decade. As new and innovative technology enables the development and manufacture of more affordable underwater cameras and equipment, novice and experienced photographers alike are diving in and exploring a whole new world with underwater photography.

Not too long ago, taking pictures underwater required photographers to wear large, bulky waterproof cases that were very heavy and expensive to manufacture. Plastics technology has made it possible to manufacture products for the general public that were previously considered specialty products. This is also the case with photography equipment, specifically with digital cameras for underwater use, which are now available in many sizes and price ranges. There is a waterproof digital camera available for any budget. Do you already have a great camera that you would like to use underwater, but it is not waterproof? Chances are there is a waterproof case available for your digital camera. In any case, don’t delay! Underwater photography is very exciting and offers you the opportunity to learn more about the world around you, as well as take some fantastic pictures.

As you begin, keep these tips in mind:

1. Familiarize yourself with your camera and gear before you venture out. Read the manual and understand the settings and features it has. Also, take note of the depth and pressure your camera and equipment were designed for.

2. Make sure to fully charge your camera battery the night before. Download whatever image is in your camera and paste it into your computer’s memory so you have the maximum amount of memory to take lots of photos.

3. Before submerging in water, inspect your camera and make sure there is no dirt or dust on or around the battery compartment and memory card slot covers and seals. This gap could allow water to seep in. If you are using a waterproof case, check all seals on the case, latches, buttons, etc. Then make sure everything is closed and sealed properly on your computer.

4. Be sure to secure your camera and gear to your body before jumping, such as with a wrist strap. It is very easy to drop your camera when you are submerged in water and depending on where you are it can be quite difficult to find your camera on the bottom.

5. When you get home, be sure to thoroughly clean your camera equipment. Place the camera or camera case in clean water and scrub off any sediment that has built up. Let your kit sit and dry completely.

6. Most importantly, have fun exploring your new world of underwater photography!
