How Great Leaders Handle Bad News

As a new leader, you will undoubtedly face your share of bad, even very bad news. Endure the worst and show your true leadership skills with this four-step process:

o Stay calm. If you lose your temper, you will discourage your teammates from reporting problems to you.

o Report the news to your boss, even if you have fixed the problem. Detail the steps you have taken to resolve the issue and your plans to prevent it from being resubmitted in the future. And ask the boss’s recommendations for improvements.
