Strengths and Weaknesses – The Truth About You

As an entrepreneur, it is essential that you know yourself well, how you act in situations, your strengths and weaknesses. This self-assessment will show you where you can build on your strengths and attract others to fill your weaknesses. The next question is, how do you define a strength and how do you define a weakness?

Marcus Buckingham, bestselling author and business consultant, defines strengths and weaknesses by the emotions they evoke. Paraphrasing, he states:

“A strength is something that makes you feel stronger after completing the task. It gives you energy. A weakness, on the other hand, is something that physically exhausts you; in other words, you may very well be good at a particular task.” or skill, but when you complete it, it leaves you more tired than when you started.”

Marcus goes on to say that you need to let go of those weaknesses and focus on your strengths. I agree with the definitions that Marcus has outlined. And while a weakness can be something that drains you physically and mentally, it can also be something that hasn’t fully developed within you. Therefore, as you consciously focus on developing a particular skill, you may find that it begins to become a strength. You may realize that the identified weakness has been holding you back, but as you develop and strengthen it, you find that new opportunities arise. to the light.

Think about your company and the people who work for you. What are your strengths and weaknesses? According to Buckingham, once strengths and weaknesses have been identified, each individual must build on their strengths, which are ideally different from others and thus complement teams, thus creating a strong unit that acts as one.

Now go one step further. Each individual identifies both his strengths and his weaknesses and then focuses on his strengths in the workplace. On their own time, they pick one or two weaknesses that they feel they can develop further and turn into a strength. This, over time, will allow the team to evolve as new strengths are added to each individual, making the whole team stronger.

The important thing is not that you have identified your strengths and weaknesses, but that you continually adapt, evolve and improve. It’s also critical that you play to your strengths to be successful. As companies reconfigure and rebuild through this tough economy, it is the strengths of people that will help steer the company in a new direction. If everyone can be on the same page, knowing each other’s strengths, then the company can better position itself for success not only during an economic downturn, but also during good times.
