The king of console wars: which system will reign supreme?

Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft XBOX360 are the three new generation consoles that currently make up the market share of the gaming industry. The debate continues among console fans as to which one is above the rest. My intent is to put an end to that debate and take an objective look at each console and compare them to each other to determine which console is the best; Is it Wii, PS3 or XBox360?

Let’s start with the XBOX360, since it was the first to arrive on the scene in 2005; the graphics were unlike anything seen before, the detail and clarity of the display was like looking through thin glass into another world. People lined up at game stores to play the console on display. Given that the 360 was available almost a year longer than the PS3 and Wii, it had plenty of time to grab a chunk of market share. People who didn’t want to wait for the other consoles could be content with a 360, which put Microsoft at a huge advantage.

XBox 360 also has the upper hand when it comes to exclusive games. Halo, Gears of War, Two Worlds, Star Ocean, other RPGs are only on XBox 360 and not PS3 or Wii. Many of the other two console owners look with envy at the sheer number of games available to XBox 360 owners. PS3 doesn’t have games to rival the sheer number of Halo players, or the ease of use in an online interface. like xbox live.

PlayStation 3 got off to a pretty rocky start. Coming out about a year and a half later than the XBox 360, it was already far behind in sales, mainly due to timing and its $600 price tag. Few people, even those loyal to the PlayStation name, were willing to pay such an amount. exorbitant for a game console. This hurt Sony for a while, but after a price drop, it became available to more people. PS3 has some games that XBox and Wii don’t, like Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2; all of which are great games that are fun to play.

The graphics debate seems to go on forever, but from the research I’ve done on the subject, I think there’s a general understanding that the PS3 has superior graphics to the other two consoles. XBox 360 graphics for the same game generally tend to be a bit muddier and duller in contrast to its PS3 counterpart. The Wii’s graphics are the worst, mainly because Nintendo doesn’t have graphics in mind.

Nintendo’s Wii is in another realm of its own; with a nunchuk controller that forces the player to shake it in all kinds of movements, whether they want to or not. Wii appeals more to parents; which is smart because kids in elementary and middle school usually don’t make the buying decisions. Children have an easier time convincing their parents to get them a Wii because the family can play the console together without threats, and even with Grandma and Grandpa.

The Wii game library is thinning, with few games getting press besides all the ones Nintendo develops, like Wii Fit, Wii Sport, and Wii Resort. Wii lacks the in-depth games that the XBox 360 and PS3 have for their consoles; You never have to worry about wasting a Sunday afternoon playing Elder Scrolls Oblivion, it would be more like 10 minutes with Cooking Mama.

Wii lacks the solid graphics and games that both the XBox 360 and PS3 have, which is why it ranks third on my list. XBox 360 comes in second, mainly because the controller is so big and bulky that it’s like holding a block of cheese. PS3 is ranked number 1 for several reasons. Sony has been in business much longer than Microsoft, so I’m more confident in their decision, and with the recent price drop, the PS3 is only $300, half of what it was originally. XBox 360 seems to have a lot of problems with its console, be it a game not working or the red ring of death. Sony has the experience and the best technical specifications that make it the best console on the market.
