Blimpy: weight gain during pregnancy

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that women gain between 25 and 35 pounds during pregnancy. Of course, this weight depends on the initial weight of the woman. If you are overweight, you should gain less and if you are underweight, you should gain more. Easy enough. Now let’s say your girl starts her pregnancy at a healthy and sexy weight. How the hell will he look thirty pounds more? Do not worry! It is evenly distributed throughout your body and not everything goes to your ass. Here’s a general breakdown of where the weight is going:

* Baby (aka the bun in the oven): 7.5 pounds

* Placenta: 1.5 pounds

* Amniotic fluid: 2 pounds

* Uterus enlargement (this is also enlarged): 2 pounds

* Larger breast size (Yay, for you!): 2 pounds

* More blood (now easily overheated): 4 pounds

* Fluid retention (not fun for your partner): 4 pounds

* Stores of maternal fat (your weight gain): 7 pounds

Average total gain: 30 pounds

To help keep weight gain on track, your partner should aim to gain 3 to 5 pounds during their first trimester, which on average is 1 to 1.5 pounds per month. During your second trimester, you should gain about 0.5 pounds per week, and you should gain an average of 1 pound per week during your third trimester. Again, this is just a guide, so don’t freak out (and don’t let her freak out) if you make 2 pounds a week and nothing more. For the most part, your body does its thing. Relax and enjoy the ride.
